3am on 16th November 2024 Jim Wakem (Chair of Calstock Parish Council) and Andrew Morton (Tamar Valley Twinning Group) joined Darren Tait’s convoy (Cornwall and Devon Sending Love to Ukraine) on the long journey to Warsaw to deliver aid for Ukraine.
On 18th November Jim and Andrew met with representatives Tatiana and Lydia from Petrykivka to sign the twinning agreement. Tatiana and Lydia had also had a long journey via bus and train to Warsaw. Petrykivka is in the Dnipro region and we are very pleased they were able to make the journey.
Residents of Calstock Parish have shown amazing support to the people of Ukraine over the past few years including opening their homes and sending over 200 van loads of aid. Thanks to your continued support, particularly the local schools, we have sent 87 Christmas shoeboxes with this convoy that will be sent to the children and adults in Petrykivka.
We hope that Twinning will open up many collaborative opportunities for individuals and groups within the Parish to learn about each others cultures, hobbies and sport. Whilst visiting Ukraine is not possible at present, there are opportunities for meeting online using social media or zoom/teams. If there is a particular group you would like to contact please email us at tamarvalleytwinning@yahoo.com and we will endeavour to make this happen.
